Dr. Guanglin Li
Talk Title: Using Electromyogram to Control a Motorized Artificial Arm
Biography:
Dr. Guanglin Li received the Ph.D. degree in biomedical engineering from Zhejiang University, China, in 1997. During 1999-2002, he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Department of bioengineering, the University of Illinois at Chicago, on the studies of electrocardiography and electroencephalography inverse problems and cardiac electrophysiology. From 2002 to 2006, he was a senior Research Scientist at BioTechPlex Corporation, where he worked on the research and development of biomedical and biological products. From 2006 to 2009, he was with the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, where he was a Senior Research Scientist in the Neural Engineering Center for Artificial Limbs and with Northwestern University, where he was a Assistant Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Chicago. Since 2009, he has been with Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT), Chinese Academy of Sciences, where he is currently a Professor in the Research Center for Neural Engineering at Institute of Biomedical and Health Engineering. Dr. Li has published more than 50 peer-reviewed papers. Since 2006 he has been the Senior Member of the IEEE Society. He has served as a reviewer for more than 10 peer-reviewed international journals, as an associate editor for IEEE Transactions on Information and Technology in Biomedicine, and as a Member of the International Advisory Board of Physiological Measurement. His current research interests include neuroprosthesis control, neural–machine interface, rehabilitation engineering, biomedical signal analysis, and computational biomedical engineering.

Dr. Mitsuhiro Hayashibe
Talk Title: Evoked EMG-based Torque Prediction and Closed-loop Torque Control in FES
Dr. Mitsuhiro Hayashibe received the B.S. degree in mechano-aerospace engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1999. M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from University of Tokyo, graduate school of engineering in 2001 and 2005 respectively. He was an assistant professor at Jikei University School of Medicine, Department of Medicine, Research Center for Medical Sciences from 2001 to 2006, and a postdoctoral fellow at INRIA Sophia Antipolis and LIRMM from 2007. Since 2008, he has been a research scientist with INRIA and LIRMM, Computational Medicine and neurosciences, DEMAR project. His research interests include modeling and identification of neuromuscular dynamics and biomechanics. He received Best Paper Award from Journal of Japanese Society for Computer- aided Surgery and CAS Young Investigator Award, Gold Prize from Hitachi Medical Systems. He is a member of IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, and French side leader of Japan-France Integrated Action Program AYAME supported by JSPS and INRIA (2010-2012).
Dr. Dingguo Zhang
Talk Title: Some Case Studies on EMG Technique for Prosthethesis and Neuroprosthesis
Dr. Dingguo Zhang received the B.Eng. degree in electrical engineering from Jilin University, Changchun, China, in 2000, the M.Eng. degree in control engineering from Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China, in 2002, and the Ph.D. degree from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, in 2007. From 2006 to 2007, he was a Research Fellow at the Biorobtoics Laboratory, Nanyang Technological University. In 2008, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Le Laboratoire d’Informatique, de Robotique et de Micro´electronique de Montpellier (LIRMM), Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), France. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Institute of Robotics, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China. He is the member of IEEE, EMBS, RAS, and IFESS. He won the Delsys Prize in 2011. His current research interests include biological cybernetics, biomechatronics, and rehabilitation techniques.
Pete Shull
Talk Title:EMG-controlled robotics to assess human motor control and learning
Pete Shull is currently a PhD student at Stanford University in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. He is expected to get the PhD degree in April, 2012. He received the Master of Science degree from Stanford University in 2008 in Mechanical Engineering. He was the primary author of a major U.S. National Science Foundation grant award and is a patent holder for a portable movement retraining system using haptic feedback and cell phones. His research interests include EMG-controlled robotics, haptics, and control techniques for medical applications.
